Sage × Assembly Coffee × Here Comes the Sun — Norwich

In June 2024 I hosted and curated my debut solo exhibition — Here Comes the Sun — at Fairhurst Gallery in Norwich, under my art practice Samu Studio. As part of the build, I partnered with Sage — the design-led kitchen appliance house — and Assembly Coffee, the London-based B Corp speciality roastery, to bring a working coffee moment into the gallery.

The work

Here Comes the Sun was built to feel less like an exhibition and more like a curated living room — biophilic, multi-sensory, designed to engage every sense. If sight was carried by the mycelium sculptures, touch by the TAKT furniture, and light by the TALA lamps, then taste and ritual had to be part of it too.

Sage — a design-led kitchen appliance house whose products stand up as objects as much as tools — sent across a curated selection of espresso and grinding equipment. Assembly Coffee, the London B Corp speciality roastery whose beans have quietly become a benchmark in the category, supplied a single origin chosen to sit well with the space. The station lived at the centre of the room, treated as a design object in its own right. Every visitor was offered a proper coffee — Sage machines, Assembly beans, served in Le Creuset mugs . That small ritual changed how people spent time in the room.

Both brands were featured together in the exhibition's official publication — a fold-out poster distributed across the run — as part of the Conscious Collaborations section, spotlighted alongside a considered peer roster of TAKT, TALA, Ligne Roset, Rega, Haeckels, Fujifilm, Briiv and G.F. Smith. The show functioned as brand positioning, experiential marketing, and a Norwich-based brand activation moment for both partners — a pop-up showroom in everything but name.
