good: shop

A pop-up lifestyle store that gave local makers a platform to sell their goods in a curated retail space. Making it easier for Christmas shoppers to buy from local makers and brands all under one roof.

Problem

Norfolk has many talented local artisan makers and consumers are increasingly making efforts to boycott big retailers to support local makers instead. Other than the occasional craft fair there were not many retail spaces that offered local makers a platform to sell from or an accessible place for locals to shop from.

Solution

In November 2019 myself and friends Alice and Josh co-created the independent lifestyle store good: shop. A pop-up shop that stocked goods made by local makers, brands and artisans. We provided a minimalist, inviting space in the centre of Norwich city that made shopping local accessible 7 days a week in the leadup to Christnmas. The challenge was to find a suitable premises, get a short term lease, locate and sign up makers, design and build a shop-fit, design branding and market the project, all in 2 weeks in time for the Christmas shoppers.

Results

Within 6 weeks of opening, we had sold to over 650+ customers, gained over 1,000 followers on Instagram and supported over 20 local makers. We boycotted Black Friday and launched a social enterprise named good: bags in which we handed out donation bags to those most in need. This project was featured on BBC Radio Norfolk & EDP both online & in print.
