Pebble, Stone, Rock — Speculative AI Devices For A Screenless Future

Jony Ive and Sam Altman are building screenless, AI-powered devices together. The $6.5 billion bet? That the future of personal technology is ambient, tactile, and invisible — a "third core device" alongside your phone and laptop, launching late 2026.
I think they're right. And I think this space is wide open.
Here's where I'd take it: three speculative devices — Pebble, Stone, and Rock — designed around a simple idea. The smartest device in your life should be the one that demands the least from you.
Pebble — Wearable Companion
Small enough to wear as a pendant or ring. Gentle nudges throughout the day — move more, breathe, reflect. At night, it replaces your phone: voice-activated alarm, guided meditation, soft white noise. No screen. No scroll. Just rest.
Stone — Calm In Your Pocket
Palm-sized, with softened edges so it sits naturally in the hand. Summarises your day in a few sentences, plays calming soundscapes, connects to headphones for a quick meditation between meetings. A tool for focus and restoration — not endless stimulation.
Rock — Ambient Intelligence For The Home
Sculptural. Design-led. Part refined speaker, part subtle light source. Integrates with your smart home to adjust the room around you — dimming lights, curating playlists, reading bedtime stories, running white noise through the night. Think Bang & Olufsen meets mindful living.
The Principles
Function — Practical, intuitive, genuinely helpful. Form — Objects as beautiful and grounding as those found in nature.Freedom — Technology that enhances life without hijacking attention.
Sustainably sourced materials. Replaceable batteries. Modular components. Objects built to keep, repair, and cherish — not to landfill.
Where Things Are Heading
Less screens. More presence. More objects that earn their place in your home by protecting your attention rather than competing for it. I believe this is the direction — and I'd love to help a brand bring something like it to life.
